If all those features and upgrades haven't convinced you that PS3 Madden 10 is a masterpiece, then perhaps a trip through the sports video game timeline will. Maybe it's an obtuse comparison, lavishing platitudes on PS3 Madden 10, just because it blows every past video football game out of the water. After viewing the earliest football video games, however, you'll understand why PS3 Madden 10 is such an achievement. It makes sense that at the beginning of the video game console revolution, there was a huge demand for football video games. Only thing was, video game consoles and cartridges didn't have the capabilities to match the needs of the typical hardcore gamer, so everyone had to take what they could get. "All the excitement" of the real thing, the game publishers crowed back then. Competition was nonexistent, so this one was a huge hit for the biggest video game console in the day.
Those guys on the playing field sure couldn't pass for actual football players. That's just a harsh fact. As crude-looking as that picture is, it's even worse when you see the game in action. This one, like all early games, suffered from the "blinking graphics" syndrome, due to low programming capacity. The "crowd" cheering sounded closer to a car running over gravel. No scrolling screen, either. Within a couple years, things would pick up slightly, with a competing console developing a football video game. It was yards better than that first one - people looked a bit more like people, the players no longer flickered, and gamers got their scrolling screen. Better, but not great. That one caused a huge sensation upon its arrival to the video game world, and while it set a (slightly) higher standard, this wasn't the foundation for football video games to be built on. More time would pass in order for that to transpire. This next one reaped the benefits of the 8-bit gaming revolution, and people still rave about it to this day. For a long time, it was the gold standard by which football video games were held. It's certainly easy to see why that one was a hit - the gameplay was far more sophisticated, incorporating actual offensive and defensive strategies. Graphics and sound were vastly improved, so for many years, this was the video football game. Judging by its online revival, people still enjoy it today in small doses. Yet, it's still a poor man's PS3 Madden 10. Once you've viewed all the other games, have a gander at PS3 Madden 10.
As you can see, football video games have evolved exponentially since their first appearance. But there's no purpose in ragging on the early games. No need to beat a dead horse. Those games did what needed to be done, and we have them to thank, indirectly, for PS3 Madden 10. Gamers are happy, and with good cause - PS3 Madden 10 really kicked this one through the goal posts. And of course, the critics are equally enthusiastic about PS3 Madden 10, which is even more good news for fans of the franchise. Reviews for PS3 Madden 10 are filled with praise such as "realistic and enjoyable." No shocker - EA Sports has scored another touchdown with PS3 Madden 10. Don't listen to the naysayers and the contrarians - there are few games as great as PS3 Madden 10. Not to disparage the other PlayStation sports video games - they're all pretty excellent in their own right, but PS3 Madden rules the playing field. In the video game world, PS3 football games begin and end with Madden. This is the game for the real men, not just the little kids, when you go toe-to-toe for some serious money. PlayStation Madden 10 aficionados now get to face off for big bucks. You'll be making touchdowns, and nabbing your foe's money, after you've educated yourself in all things Madden 10.
